Brent
Dixon traveled to Cherokee Speedway in Gaffney, SC on Sunday,
March 2, 2008 for the $10,000 to win March Madness sanctioned by
the O'Reilly Southern All Stars East series. Over forty
cars qualified to try to make entry to the early season event.
Dixon was the first car during qualifying to break the track
record with a blistering time of 14.898 seconds around the
4/10ths mile oval. Shane Clanton had set the previous
track record at Cherokee Speedway with a time of 14.998 seconds.
Dennis "Rambo" Franklin quickly stole the fast time
from Brent setting the current track record of 14.829 seconds.
After setting the second fastest
qualifying lap, Dixon started on the pole of the second heat
race along side of Randy Weaver (116). Weaver pulled off
the win in the second heat, but Dixon finished in the second
spot giving him a third row (6th) starting position in the
feature event along side of Dennis "Rambo" Franklin.
Dixon battled throughout the sixty-lap
event at Cherokee Speedway to pull off an 11th place finish for
the team in a field of heavy competition that included some of
the industry's best late model drivers.
